The ACE Study (Active, Connected, Engaged) or ACTIF among the Welsh cohort, investigates how older adult volunteers can support their peers to become more physically and socially active within their communities and prevent a decline in their mobility.

What is the ACE/ACTIF Study

The ACE study examines how we can support people who are 65 years and older to stay mobile and maintain their independence for longer. We will do this by matching older adults with volunteers who are themselves over 55 years old so they can get out and about in their local communities and enjoy being active together.

Who is it for?

We are asking adults aged 65 and above from Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester and Cardiff, who have some difficulty doing daily activities such as walking, getting out of a chair, and climbing stairs to take part in the ACE study.

Who is organising the study?

The study is led by the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, at the University of Birmingham and will be launched in September 2021. The National Institute for Health Research funds this study via the Public Health Research Programme.

How can I get involved?
